Artist statement

What if true art lay in the gestures we repeat for those we love? In the constancy of everyday life, the warmth of a presence, faithfulness to invisible effort. This work draws on my childhood memories. I remember my mother going with my father to the fields, sharing the work of the land, growing and harvesting the produce she carried home in a basin on her head. A strong, brave, tireless woman, the silent pillar of family life. The fish symbol appears naturally: born in March, she embodies the qualities associated with Pisces (sensitivity, devotion, intuition and a gentle strength, often discreet but essential). Through this work I also pay tribute to the women of the shadows, everyday heroines too often invisible: those who work in the informal sector, far from the spotlight and social media, but whose gestures sustain our lives and our collective well-being. Work that goes unnoticed when it is done, but whose absence immediately reveals its importance.

Et si le véritable art résidait dans les gestes répétés pour ceux que l’on aime ? Dans la constance du quotidien, la chaleur d’une présence, la fidélité à l’effort invisible. Cette œuvre puise sa source dans mes souvenirs d’enfance. Je me souviens de ma mère accompagnant mon père au champ, partageant le travail de la terre, cultivant et récoltant les produits qu’elle rapportait à la maison dans une bassine portée sur la tête. Une femme forte, courageuse et infatigable, pilier silencieux de la vie familiale. Le symbole du poisson y apparaît naturellement : née au mois de mars, elle incarne les qualités associées au signe des Poissons (sensibilité, dévouement, intuition et une force douce, souvent discrète mais essentielle). À travers cette œuvre, je rends également hommage aux femmes de l’ombre, ces héroïnes du quotidien trop souvent invisibles. Celles qui travaillent dans le secteur informel, loin des projecteurs et des réseaux sociaux, mais dont les gestes soutiennent nos vies et notre bien-être collectif. Un travail que l’on ne remarque pas lorsqu’il est accompli, mais dont l’absence révèle immédiatement toute l’importance.

About the artist

Self-taught Togolese artist who has painted on canvas and walls since 2023. She uses intense acrylic colour to create characters that convey emotion and raise awareness of social and environmental issues.
